The Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Review Group was established by Ministers on 8 April 1998 to review all aspects of existing policies and legislation on salmon and freshwater fisheries in England and Wales. The Review Groups report addresses a wide range of issues. These include :

• How freshwater fisheries should be regulated and funded
• Rules on angling, including close seasons
• Rules on stocking and on fish movements
• Fish habitat problems
• Predation
• Enforcement of fisheries regulations
• Salmon and Sea Trout issues, including the future of netting
